How to use well data to support operations and growth
Understanding the amount of water wineries can reliably draw from their wells on a daily basis can play an important role in planning for future growth.
The maximum pumping rate can be estimated by having a licensed well technician conduct a well yield test to measure the rate of water infiltration into the well.
Since well yield may vary over the course of the year, it is recommended that the yield test be conducted when water levels are lowest to obtain a conservative estimate.
While the minimum duration of a yield test is one hour, it is recommended that the pump test be conducted over a longer period (5-24 hours) in order to provide greater confidence in the ability of the well to sustain a given pump rate.
